Photo: Lucy Salazar Here I am holding my hat that I bought in Puerto Rico a lifetime ago, exactly 10 years ago. I never thought back then that I would be who I am today. But then again I was not me back then. Not the me that I am now, which is a much more satisfying self than the 2005 version. I guess that is why after the event I looked at the pictures and remarked to my great friend, colleague, and supporter of the arts Lucy Salazar that having her photographs in the background was so fitting because it reflected exactly what I was talking about: fluidity. The ability to change. To flux. We didn't plan it. I did ask her to showcase those particular photos but not to tie in to my book's title. I selected those only because I truly liked those in particular. As always, some things just happen. No need to force them. They just...flow. |
