"For me there was a voice | The MercuryThere is a cave that leads to hidden spaces under the Pyramid of the "Feathered Serpent" in Teotihuacan, Mexico. It is said to contain mercury, which could be a signal that it was used by the ancients to recreate rivers or bodies of water in honor of a ruler lain to rest within those chambers. This is very interesting, since I just saw a documentary yesterday before I read the news of Mexico in which the mysteries of pyramids was the subject. In China, according to that documentary, there is a pyramid/mound which is rumored to contain a lavish tomb for their first king possibly featuring a replica of his city along with loads and loads of mercury to replicate the surrounding rivers and streams. So when I read about the Mexican pyramid tomb, I was awed at the mysteries of human antiquity. The MessageHow interesting that we live in a world of sequences and behaviors that repeat through the ages and replicate themselves across cultures which had never (supposedly) communicated with one another. And so, these instances of hidden chambers resurfacing seem to me like symbols of reemergence. A culture that refuses to die completely. A history that pumps with life, each pulse spreading the blood across the desiccated body urging it to rise. Things remain hidden until their time to comes. Then their resurgence is inevitable. Then it is unstoppable. The secrets of the old Americas keep punching back at modernity's insistence to close the books on them. They cannot be silenced. They demand to speak. Will we head their mercurial accounts? |
